Portraits

A portrait is more than a reflected likeness. For me, it is an accumulation of stories and objects that illustrate a life. Sometimes with great, maximal detail, and others with more focus and a lighter touch.
After years of creating work in this manner—first as self-portraits, and then with The Women, I am now expanding my practice to include commissioned portraits. They can celebrate loved ones, commemorate a life, mark a milestone or simply reflect a subject in a new way. Currently taking the form of boxes, mirrors, bell jars, and wall reliefs... Please email me to discuss~

Texas Charm Portrait, 2024
When handed a vintage wooden box filled with sentimental family mementos, I was inspired by the client's Texas roots and funky personal style to create this maximal charm bracelet for her home. -
Portrait of Lisa S., 2022
A bell jar portrait telling the client's story with a light touch and a little whimsey~ -
Portrait of Barbara, 2021
A box is a metaphor for a life; a vessel that houses evidence of existence, family, career, adventures, dreams... Here the subject is a refined interior designer, mother, and global citizen. Her box needed to be equally elevated, so I sourced this 19th c. Chinese lacquer one to complete the vision. -
Portrait of Robbin, 2021
A mirror creates a double portrait of the subject; the embellished border offers one view; her reflection in the glass a second. Personal mementos are tucked along the mirror's edge as they might be on a lady's vanity... While the curated shelf below offers an additional platform to tell her story. -
Portrait of Zoltan, 2021
My grandfather, Zoltan Windt, emigrated from Hungary to Mandatory Palestine in 1932 after first arriving as a tourist and falling in love with Sara Shilony, whose parents owned the pensione he stayed in while visiting Haifa. By the 1950s, Zoltan and Sara opened a men's clothing store called Mehudar (The Well Dressed Man) on the ground floor of the building. The store defined my grandfather to me, and I loved visiting, exploring the old wooden drawers, watching the tailors at work. When Sabah Zoli died, I collected boxes full of mementos, and they have inspired and nourished me since. -
Portrait of Gavi, 2021
Evoking 18th/19th c. taxidermic fantasies under glass, my bell jar portraits are anchored by 21st c. 3D scans, surrounded by carefully chosen objects. Here my teenage niece celebrates music, baking, Hawaii, diversity, her dream car, her athleticism, favorite TV show, personal style and more. -
Portrait of Bridgette, 2021
A modern-day Cabinet of Curiosities, framing the important and symbolic objects that shape a life. Here, gallerist Bridgette Mayer balances her professional identity with family and spirituality. The wood background is flooring from her gallery. The strawberries evoke an important childhood memory. -
Portrait of My Parents
A time capsule of the 60's and early 70's, defined by Yoram and Vardina Wind's first passports, my father's officer's hat from his time in the Israeli army, his analog slide rule, and the cast hands which were from a groovy belt buckle that I remember my mother wearing low on the hips with a hot pink jumpsuit and YSL Opium perfume~ -
