A collection of 1960’s collectible decanters celebrating Heroes of the American Revolution was my jumping off point for the show. Additional inspiration came from Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, with its time travel, pop culture mash-up, and outsider lens. I thought about the tropes of authority–The uniforms, decorations, and elaborate pedestals—and wanted to intervene, responding to the social and political concerns of our times, and redefining what a hero might look like now.
This is my whiskey rebellion.
